110 years ago Peterlongo L.S., was just a name, unknown in Brazil, mainly in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This family arrived here as immigrants, with the feeling of developing and investing the little sum of money they had brought from Europe.The family came to Brazil having the intention of building a fine liqueur factory (in that time with a great acceptance in Europe). For this reason they brought formulas, which remained in the family through generations and finds to start the business.As soon as they arrived in Rio Grande do Sul, they got scared, because the place was still unexplored opposite to what they had been told by the people in Italy.That's the why the business didn't work out. After that Manuel dedicated himself to begin the future town Garibaldi, as he was a surveyor engineer.In 1899 Armando Peterlongo was born and in 1913 Manoel used to dream of producing champagne in Brazil and on 1st January 1915 he founded Armando Peterlongo winery.In 1924 the company was into a development process.In that time, they used to produce champagne in a craft way. According to Don Perigon's knowledge that was a French abbot, to turn wine into champagne it must pass through a new fermentation (by which it acquires gas) and in this process, the fermentation happens in a natural way inside its own bottle. This process is called Champenoise.The company has an international quality standart and even reaches the French wine cellar level. The company's edifications walls are made of granite which remain till nowadays. In the 1930's apogee, Getulio Vargas visited the company - the president of republic.The product had a great success, so relatives and friends encouraged the family to turn this hobby into a serious job, and so they got help from Armando's son who became an enterpriser.After Manuel's death had a very significant increasement in the 30's. The need of an expanding made 1940 a year plenty of changes for the company.In 1942 the company exported champagne for the first time. The Americans were the first customers to accept the product abroad.We can compare the old times to nowadays competition in some aspects because the champagne's importation was allowed but the success was so great that even the official ceremonies, ships and airplane's baptism used to be celebrated with Peterlongo Champagne (even the British Queen Elisabeth praised the product by the time she tasted it, during her visit to the Brazilian Consulate).The company's name after some changes in 1965 began to be called Armando Peterlongo Winery Establishment.The most considerable expansion stage was started in 1970 with the building of new pavilions. The aim was to increase the capacity stockpile, due to a stable growth in the demand.In the 80s the production increased from 120.000 cases yearly to 600.000 cases yearly. A significant number of employees are hired. New products are released in the market and still nowadays enchant the taste of millions of Brazilian foreigners.In 1987 the production reaches over ten thousand bottles per hour. The industrial area is enlarged to 17.000. Stainless steel batteries are installed for the fermentation and cool treatment of 1.200.000 litters.Peterlongo is the pioneer in producing champagne in Brazil.Today the company sells a million cases yearly and cultivates about 30% of the grapes used in the most noble products elaboration. Peterlongo is being managed by the fourth family generation with the same concern as the first one, introducing its products as they are knows: the best in Brazil in their segment.Recently in 1989 Peterlongo released its masterpiece, Champenoise Peterlongo, product elaborated in the same way as in the XVII century 1970, discovered by Don Perignon and in 1913 Manuel Peterlongo introduced it in Brazil.
