Li brocade, known as "living fossil of Chinese textile history", is a common name for artistic works
through process of spinning, dying, weaving and embroidering. Traditional techniques of spinning,
dying, weaving and embroidering developed by Li people was covered by A List of Intangible Cultural
Heritage at National Level in 2006.
We are deeply shocked by the surpassing brilliancy and great vitality of Li brocade and we began
to visit Li villages and contact with Li brocades. We have visited nearly one hundred village and
several hundred Li grandmas scattering in five dialect Li regions to collected almost dying Li brocades
as the firsthand information for further research and development. In July of 2005 Hainan Splendid
Brocade Industry Co., Ltd. was founded to establish a like-minded and dedicated team for scientific
research and management. Li brocade production bases have been set up in some cities and counties
of Li settlement in order to inherit Li brocade techniques. Several thousand Li brocade patterns have
been developed due to our continued explorations and researches on Li brocade culture during the
past few years. We are trying to put Li brocade to market as we think that development is the best
preservation.
Our work has got strong support from Hainan Provincial Party Committee, Hainan Provincial
Government, minority people regions and social sectors. Wei Liucheng, Secretary of Hainan Provincial
Party Committee, presented our product to Mr. Bill Gates by himself. Many enterprises such as Hainan
Airlines and Boao COSCO have selected our products as their gifts. Hainan Provincial Museum has
collected our products as exhibits and Hainan Meilan Airport has chosen our product as wall hanging
decoration in VIP hall. Our products have traveled to the world along with state leaders and distinguished
guests from different countries.
We sincerely appreciate strong support from all of you. We still have a long way to go in order to
relay civilized torch. We still need your continued support in future process. We will continue to put
our greatest efforts in order to revitalize this ancient national cultural heritage.
