In 1596, Li Shizhen wrote in Compendium of Materia Medica: that many herbs such as Stemona Japonia, Sophora flavescens, Chinaberry, cypress and polar can be used to kill pests. In the 5th century, people in Rome and Mediterranean Area also used veraturn nigrum to protect their seedling from pest.
