Ethnic Collection S. A. is based in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. We have been manufacturing and trading balsa wood carvings since 1996. Our philosophy is based on two things: offer high quality crafts and the best customer service. Our customers always come first and we keep an open friendly line of communication with them in both English and Spanish. Balsa wood itemsOur collection includes decorative figures which are carved by hand in exotic designs and colours taken from the flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest and the Galapagos Islands-birds, fishes, tortoises and many more. We have our own balsa wood plantation on Ecuador's west coast and we replant more than we cut down. Our carvings are 100% made by hand. In creating a piece, our woodcarvers start with the felled tree. The wood is then cut into several basic blocks. With their skilled eye our carvers begin forming each figure. It takes about two hours to carve one large piece. Afterwards the figure goes through a process of drying and sanding. Then, imaginative and skillful painters add wonderful bright colours to the pieces.
