Aladin came into existence in Auroville, India, in 1998. In 8 years it has grown from one person inspiration to a flourishing workshop with more than 25 employees from the surrounding villages.
We insist on high quality of our products and good working conditions for our team, in a clean and pleasant environment, providing health care and retirement plans.
All our items are handmade with materials native to India. The main part of our production is lampshades, but we also create various designs of lighting.
Various types of handmade paper are essential in our production. We use silk paper, for its refined texture and ability to defuse the light, rice and banana paper with different grains, colours, and texture.
The wooden parts are composed of Red Cedar from Kerala, chosen for its shade and lightness. As well as a variety of Eucalyptus, known as "Worktree" in Auroville, for its strength and unique grain. To protect the wooden parts we only use wax and linseed oil, for its hard wearing and non-toxic quality.
