Pashmina refers to a type of fine cashmere wool less than 12 microns thick and the textiles made from it. The name comes from Pashmineh, made from Persian pashm ("wool"). The wool comes from changthangi or pashmina goat, which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas in Kashmir, India and hence the name Cashmere. Pashmina shawls are hand spun, woven and embroidered in Kashmir, and made from fine cashmere fibre.
The difference between Cashmere and Pashmina is in the thickness. The Cashmere fibre come from the same himalayan goat and is 14 microns thick whereas Pashmina is 12 microns thick ; compared to human hair which is 70 microns thick.
The fibre is also known as pashm or pashmina for its use in the handmade shawls of Himalayas. The woollen shawls made from wool in Kashmir find written mention in Afghan texts between 3rd century BC and the 11th century AD. However, the founder of the cashmere wool industry is traditionally held to be the 15th century ruler of Kashmir, Zayn-ul-Abidin, who introduced weavers from Central Asia.
Nowadays, PASHMINA has been used too liberally to mean anything that is fine and soft, therefore scarves manufactured using synthetic fibres and made in India, Nepal and elsewhere are sold as PASHMINA thereby creating a lot of confusion.
Our Company under the name and style of PASHMINA has been in the business since last 200 years and we still work on our own looms producing inimitable styles and colors.
One big mis-conception about Pashmina is that it is cheap and can cost a fiver or a tenner. PASHMINA IS NOT CHEAP AND NEVER WAS... IT HAS FOUND PLACE IN TH WADROBES OF MARY ANTOINETTE, NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, MUGHAL RULERS OF INDIA, AND THE ROYALTY AND COUTURE HOUSES IN THE MODERN WORLD.
ONLY GENUINE PASHMINA AT AFFORDABLE PRICE.
