Since 1915 Kyoto Montsuki Inc. has been the leader amongst Kyoto's traditional black dyeing specialists. With a market share of over 60% our products are worn on formal occasions by Maiko, Geiko, Kabuki actors and Sumo wrestlers, when kimono of the highest quality are required.
In addition, by order of the Imperial Household Agency, we produced the "Omigoromo" robes for the ceremonies surrounding the enthronement of the present Emperor in 1989, an honor reserved only for companies with the highest level of skill. Being recognized as a world leader in the technique of deep black dyeing, we have also worked with prestigious companies in several areas such as advanced technology products, electronics, fabrics, medical, sport goods and fashion among others.
Now Kyoto Montsuki, Inc. is using its unmatched level of technical expertise to bring the deepest possible black finish to denim. A black denim of this depth and quality is only possible through our unique combination.

1978 Release of the first "Junguro (Pure Black)"products, developed using our ground-breaking deep color dyeing technique. The depth of this black dye finish was beyond both the imagination and technical reach of other companies at the time and established our reputation for the highest level of technical skill.
1981 Development of our hit product "Midoroguro (Intense Black)", which helped us expand to our present market share of greater than 60%.
1986 Completion of the new factory space (2000m2).
1989 By order of the Imperial Household Agency we created the "Omigoromo"robes for the ceremonies surrounding the enthronement of the present Emperor. The robes were produced using ancient dyeing techniques and wild indigo from Kyoto Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine.
1991 Began kimono tailoring, allowing us to produce kimono entirely in-house.
1996 Toru Arakawa becomes the 4th President of Kyoto Montsuki Inc.
1996 Caused a revolution in quality and ecological standards for the black dyeing industry with the development of our industry first environmentally friendly dye compound.
2001 After six months of research into applying our traditional black dyeing techniques to modern textiles, at the request of a Kyoto based apparel company, we completed the development of our unsurpassed deep black dye finish, "Shinkuro (Deep Black)" and registered our process trademark "Onkurozometsukasa".
2004 Achieved Oeko-Tex(R) Standard 100.
2010 Launch of the "BL-WHY" denim brand, produced using the "Onkurozometsukasa" branded process which combines traditional techniques with Kyoto's most technically advanced deep black dyeing technology.
