FlipFlopShop is a small enterprise based in Mombasa on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast. We produce high-quality beaded and other craft items with a funky twist. We work with a group of about 10 previously unemployed women (and a couple of men) to teach them beadwork skills needed to produce decorated EVA flipflops, leather sandals, barefoot sandals, jewelry, bookmarks, cell phone charms, Christmas ornaments and other small gift items. A ready pool of additional labor to support expansion of the business is available. As much as possible, components are sourced locally, for the strongest boost to the Kenyan economy. We have been selling to resort hotels and gift shops in Kenya for the last three years. Our goal is to become a value-for-money option for boutique buyers in Western Europe, North America, the Middle East, and East and Southern Africa looking for well-made, fairly traded beaded items.
