At Ruma Craft we make all sorts of beautiful plush toys for African and International markets.
Through aggressive design, attentive quality control and a heart for those around us, Ruma Craft blends high quality products with flexibility and a focused social mission.
Led by a dynamic team of mostly women, and with over 10 years experience, Ruma Craft can cater to all sizes of orders and design needs. Having a central position in Nairobi, Kenya, Ruma Craft serves local and regional African markets, but has also been exporting to North America for several years.
Ruma Craft was established in 2001, in Nairobi, Kenya by Mary Acheng Okello who is the current managing director.
Having done design and detail work in another organization for several years, Mary created her own company that began making quality plush toys for the local and international market. Ruma Craft has slowly expanded its market and workforce, now composed of 10+ people, mostly women, and in 2010 they we have moved to a more spacious workshop.
Ruma Craft works in a part of Nairobi where opportunities for employment are few. Ruma Craft offers employment with fair wages as well as on the job training for women who are faced with very limited options and revenue. In hiring these women, but also by expecting the highest standards of quality from them, Ruma Craft empowers them and contributes to their confidence and self-worth. Our employees can then send their children to school, pay for medical fees and lead more accomplished lives. As Ruma Craft grows, we are excited to offer more opportunities to those in our community.
