I came from a family of jeweler and jade cutters who has been in the business for the past 15 years. My operation base is in new York while my family resource is in one of the south east Asian countries. I am a graduate gemologist trained at the gemological institute of America (gia) in new York city. The following article introduces to the readers some aspect of the jade and gems trade and is written by one of my family member. Part of the article was published in an Asian magazine in 2002. I have traveled to the fabled jade mines in hpakan (burma), the corundum mines in mogok (burma) and the pailin corundum mines in Cambodia. I have also traveled widely in south east Asian countries sourcing for jade and gemstones.
