SILVAPRODUKT was founded by Slovene People's Republic government decisionin February 1951. The task of the company was to take advantage of forestry side products.
For the first year we were exclusively busy with this project. We collected and processed pine pitch, manufactured and produced essential oil from conifers, made charcoal, and sold these products.
After a few years we realized that there wasn't much of a future in the business we were operating it. We then set off in a new business direction. We took advantage of the market need for a producer of wood protection products. In association with the Institute of Forestry and Timber Economy, with the cooperation of Dr. Ditrich, we prepared some basic products in this area.
By 1956 we had begun trial production of impregnating salts and pastes for wood, as well as bandages and caps for protecting wooden poles and posts.
During this time a new type of salts for wood impregnation, made up of copper, pine, and chrome appeared on the market. If we had wanted to develop an equal product we would have had to spend years in research and development, and would have lost our chance in the market. Instead, we decided to team up with the world-leading firm in the production of impregnation salts, Dr. Wolman GMBH from West Germany. In 1966 we signed a licensing agreement and began work on impregnation salts and pastes, bandages and caps.
In 1965 we began to produce hydroinsulation bitumen tape for protecting buried metal pipes, tanks, and reservoirs. This product has been improved upon, and is still sold today as Dekorodal Trak.
In the years that followed we developed other products in the area of wood protection (protection from cracking and burning).
After some years we determined that the licensing agreement was no longer bringing about the desired effects. It limited our business, and we had gained enough experience to go out on our own. We ended the contract and began to produce our own products.
With ever increasing production we needed more and more space to run our business.
At the founding of the company we did not have our own place of business, instead we rented three offices and a small warehouse on Parmova Street in Ljubljana.
Later we rented a shed at Roznik hill, where we organized production. In 1963 we bought and renovated the building at 42 Dolenjska Street in Ljubljana. This became the home of our management, production and storage.
Because of a lack of space, we decided to build production hall, warehouse, and accompanying buildings in Ig. These buildings were constructed in 1975.
We are especially proud of the fact that all purchases, construction, renovation and financing have been achieved through our own means.
