UNCTAD, the trade and development arm of the United Nations, has for some years had in place a programme to support countries and areas where there is an identified need, to establish international trade facilitation points to assist SMMEs to enter international markets. Special attention is given to Lesser Developed Countries (LDCs) and other countries less advanced in trade development. Known as the Trade Point Programme, to date there are 100 Trade Points in operation in 70 countries around the world.

Tradepoint South Africa Durban is currently looking to select high end quality products manufactured in KwaZulu-Natal to be exhibited at trade shows and exhibitions in the European Union and the USA.
In order to qualify the product must be competitive in the South African market and the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), Emerging Entrepreneurs and Co-operatives should have participated in at least two local or national exhibitions in the last year. Preference will be given to BEE, youth and women-owned enterprises. At present there are over 250 registered Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises in the Tradepoint South Africa Durban programme, who have either already begun or are looking to become involved in international trade.
