In order to utilize this opportunity, MEY has also been organized as a marketing&sales company, which focuses on development of domestic and international markets for Tekel Alcohol products.The Firm aims to exploit significant export potential to all over the world.From the market presence point of view, MEY dominates high alcohol segment, which is comprised of 2 product categories: RAKI and other spirits. RAKI, the national alcoholic beverage, is listed as one of the top 25 global liqueor brands and represents a major competitive advantage due to several reasons, some of which are listed below.It is not possible to produce RAKI out of Turkey according to food codex set by law, therefore international competition does not exist.Brands owned by MEY(namelyYeni RAKI, Altinbas RAKI, Club RAKI and Tekirdag RAKI) have their own unique taste and loyal customer baseThe Firm dominates RAKI segment as the sole producer, since the other producers still did not start operations yet. Private sector players have been allowed to produce RAKI as of June 6th,2003 and only 2 companies have started investments. Even when they both reach to full capacity; their total production will be less than 10 million liters per annum. Considering the time and financial resources required to build up a brand in alcohol sector under tight advertising and marketing restrictions, it will be a tough task for new comers to grab a significant share.Procurement process represents another advantage for MEY. Since RAKI is produced by 2-stage distillation of grape with aniseed, Tekel Alkol had the advantage of setting base price for grape and aniseed as the largest buyer in the market and benefiting from economies of scale in procurement.Bearing these competitive advantages in mind, we would like to improve our export operations.
