History
Handmade Nepal is a family-run company and pioneer in promoting and exporting Nepalese and Tibetan Handicrafts wordwide. Decades ago our ancestors of the Shakya clan acquired the skills to make copper statues through the lost-wax method on their frequent trade-trips to Tibet. Seeing the opportunity to use these skills to better the life of the family, three generations ago we started making and selling these copper statues as a means of survival. Since then, our business has expanded both beyond statues, and beyond the borders of Nepal.
Our success coupled with our exposure to the countless struggling families selling their handicrafts to live, we saw our chance to help. The stories we heard inspired us to form an association for the crafting families in Nepal to promote their products to our clienteles. We currently have a consortium of over 150 crafting families working with us to bring the beauty of our culture to the world, and this number is growing. Today we sell an assortment of products including fabric wall art, handmade paper products and ritual practice items worldwide.
Mission
Our mission is to help impoverished communities by promoting crafting as a profession. By providing them with the resources and clientele base they require to produce and sell their work as a constant means of survival, we are able to help raise their standard of living and give them hope for a better future for their families. We are simultaneously hoping to promote and conserve traditional Nepalese and Tibetan culture by distributing these products to retailers worldwide.
Why Us
By partnering with us to supply your handicrafts, you are not only getting to share in the rich culture of Nepal but are also helping to support crafting families who rely on the selling of their work as a means of survival. You can trust in Handmade Nepal to produce high quality goods while maintaining the promise to deliver them in a safe, yet timely manner.
Also, since 2003 we at Handmade Nepal have provided support to a grassroots organization called Prisoners Assistance Nepal. This has included donations to expand their work, including helping with the building of the home in Sankhu which houses 85 children, and through the distribution of goods; blankets, clothing and hygiene supplies. We want to have a lasting impact, and would like your help to do it. This is why we have decided to give 1% of the revenue from our web-site to the organization. By partnering with us, your store or site will be helping to bring hope for a better today and promising future to the ones who need it most.
