The PICup suffices all your needs for programming a broad range of PIC microcontrollers including 8 / 18 / 28 and 40 pin devices. Since it is based on parallel port interface, unlike most other serial or USB programmers, it does not have the problem of insufficient programming voltages. It has been tested to work on broad range of computer operating frequencies and OSs.
