Arnica Publishing, Inc. , DBA: Arnica Creative Services, is a creative services and publishing
Corporation founded in September of 2002 by Dr. Diane Vines and Mr. Ross Hawkins. The name,
Arnica Creative is derived from the plant, arnica montana, a small, but powerful flower that promotes physical healing in the body and is often used for the relief of pain. The main focus of the early titles was on health and wellness--personal as well as global. The company name is representative of our original collective vision: "helping to heal the world through the power of the written word, one reader at a time. "
The evolution of the company over the past six years is reflected in the current mission statement: "As a family-owned, independent publisher, Arnica Publishing is committed to making a positive difference in the world through publishing books of fine quality. Our books bring a world of authenticity, flavor, and creativity to readers. "
In the fall of 2005, Arnica released the McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant Cookbook. To date, the title has sold over 175, 000 copies. The revised edition, with a new section of heart-healthy recipes, will be released in Spring 2008. It was the phenomenal success of this title that inspired the new creative and financial model for the company.
We have formed partnerships with national restaurants groups, local independent restaurants,
Chefs, and food producers to create a strong line of cookbook titles. One recent release, A Chef's Bounty: Celebrating Oregon's Cuisine, features recipes from over 50 restaurant / chef collaborators around the state of Oregon. It is sold in traditional book retailer outlets, as well as in regional and national grocery chains.
One of the company's strengths is in finding new distribution channels for our titles outside of
The traditional industry model. As our staff expands, we continue to provide a corporate environment that fosters employee wellness, creativity and innovative solutions. One example of this is our corporate partnership with Costco. A clamshell packet containing the McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant Cookbook and two restaurant gift cards was the highest selling item on Costco. Com during the winter 2007 quarter.
In addition, Arnica is re-affirming our commitment to social responsibility through the Arnica
Foundation, a not-for-profit arm of the company. The Arnica Foundation's goal is to promote literacy and wellness worldwide.
As Arnica expands upon our solid publishing foundation with new titles each season, we also offer creative services to our clients that provide branding opportunities for their business. We provide brand management, video production, graphic design, and photography services, in addition to our editorial, creative and production departments as a flexible, creative approach to the publishing industry.
